One day, a young women came up to me. She was 18, just started college, and learning about who she was in God.
She came up to me and pulled me aside to ask a question. With tears in her eyes she asked me “are black women cursed?”
I've heard negative things said about black women, but that question took me back.
I praise you because you made me in an amazing and wonderful way.
What you have done is wonderful. I know this very well. (Ps. 139:14)
God loves and cares for all women because we are His creation. And God has made each of us special and unique. And there is something so wonderfully different about black women; they are striking, creative, and strong.
We are different, and God made us that way on purpose.
God, your thoughts are precious to me. They are so many! (Ps 139:17)
He doesn't want us to be like anybody else. He loves the way He created us: our personalities, minds, bodies…and even our hair. Yes, our hair!
God even knows how many hairs are on your head. (Matt. 10:30)
I have met countless women who struggle to love the hair that God gave them. Ladies: There is nothing wrong with your natural hair. That is the hair God gave you; He didn't make a mistake. Just like silk, your hair is unique and delicate. God loves every kinky, curly, wavy hair on your head!
We are each on a journey to learn how to fully see and love ourselves the way that God does. I just want to do my part to help encourage and love you along the way. I know it is important for every woman to love herself because we were each made to be amazing and wonderful!
We are cherished and much dearly loved.
